Only residents can defend themselves against the planned renaming of Berlin’s Mohrenstrasse through administrative channels. With this decision, the administrative court dismissed the complaint of a man who had opposed the renaming, but did not live there, as announced on Thursday.
In June 2021, the man from Berlin-Lichtenberg took action against the decision of the Mitte district office to rename Mohrenstraße to Anton-Wilhelm-Amo-Straße. The district office rejected the objection and charged a fee of almost 150 euros.

The man turned to the court, which now argued he lacked the necessary “standing to sue” because his rights were not being violated. In addition, the amount of the administration fee is reasonable. An appeal to the Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court is possible against the verdict.
