More than 3.8 million people were registered as their main residence in Berlin in the middle of the year. That was around 46,000 more people than at the end of 2021, according to the Statistics Office.

34,700 Ukrainians alone registered in Berlin in the first half of the year. Most of them were believed to be war refugees. The exact number of reported people was 3,821,881.

However, the actual and official population of Berlin, based on censuses and other data, is smaller. It was quoted at 3.67 million at the end of 2021 and could be just over 3.7 million now.
