Cristina Nord, who has headed the Forums section of the Berlinale since summer 2019, will return to the Goethe-Institut in July 2023, where she previously worked.

The former journalist and “taz” film editor will be the “Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art e.V.” for the last time next year before she takes over the management of the Goethe-Institut in Nairobi.

Cristina Nord thanked her for the trust placed in her and called her time at the Berlinale a “treasure of experience that will accompany me in Kenya”. Arsenal directors Stefanie Schulte Strathaus and Anna Mallmann paid tribute to Nord’s commitment and the new accents she set, and Berlinale directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian praised the stimulating and fruitful collaboration with Nord.

Since it was founded by Ulrich and Erika Gregor in 1970, the Berlinale Forum has brought together independent cinema from all over the world, with a focus on film art and new visual narrative forms.

However, the “Encounters” competition section newly introduced by Carlo Chatrian after he took office at the Berlinale 2020 has a similar focus, which is why the forum, together with the docked video art series “Forum Expanded”, has to redefine its profile.
