Fans were purchased online by retailers such as Lowe’s and Amazon.
Nearly 78,000 ceiling fans have been recalled after several reports that their blades had broken, posing a danger to users.
Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that blades on Honeywell Rio Ceiling Fans and Harbor Breeze Belleisle Bay Ceiling Fans can “detach from the fan while it is in use, posing an injury hazard to customers.”
The recall covers approximately 77,900 Harbor Breeze 52 inch Belleisle Bay ceiling fans and Honeywell 52 inch Rio ceiling fans.
The Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacture Company issued the recall following 60 reports that the blades detached from the fan.
According to the CPSC, there have been three reports that the blades caused damage to drywall. However, no injuries were reported.
The recall notice states that consumers are advised to immediately cease using the fans and contact Hong Kong China Electric Appliance Manufacture Company.
To confirm that their fan falls within the recall’s scope, customers should send the company a photo and a date code.
Consumers will then be asked to remove the fan from their home and send another picture to the company.
The company will send replacements by mail to all affected consumers.
From February 2018 to August 2021, the fans were available at Lowes.com and Amazon.com.
