(London) Environmental activists from the group ‘Just Stop Oil’ interrupted a match at the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield on Monday by spilling orange powder on the pool table.

Two activists burst into the playing area within the Crucible Theater in Sheffield shortly after a game started. One of them climbed on a table and poured an orange powder on it.

The other activist, who was about to do the same thing on another table where a second match was being played, was prevented from doing so by the referee.

“They demand that the government halt any new fossil fuel projects and call on UK sporting institutions to join the civil resistance against the government’s genocidal policies,” the group said in a statement.

“Just Stop Oil” has been increasing for months the punch actions to demand the abandonment of the exploration of fossil fuels in the United Kingdom. It calls for “an indefinite campaign of civil resistance” starting April 24.

Six of its activists were given suspended prison sentences or community service at the end of March for disrupting the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone last year.

In February, five other activists who glued themselves to the frame of a painting depicting Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper at the Royal Academy of Arts were fined.

Last year, activists attacked Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, exhibited at the National Gallery in London, by spraying the work, protected by glass, with tomato soup.
