The European Women’s Football Championship will take place in England from July 6th to 31st. With a total of eight European Championship titles, the German team is one of the most successful of the 16 qualified teams.

The team has been headed by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg since 2018. The 54-year-old previously coached the Swiss national team for five years. Between 1984 and 2000 she made 125 appearances for Germany as a national player and celebrated her first European Championship victory at the age of 23. In 1996, she became the first ever player to be awarded the title of “Female Soccer Player of the Year”.

And that is the choice that Voss-Tecklenburg made for this European Championship.

Merle Frohms is considered safe for the position of goalkeeper. The 27-year-old is best known for her quick reactions, and she is also good at parrying penalties.

The player Dzsenifer Marozsan will probably leave a big gap in the team. The 30-year-old has been considered the star of the team in recent months, but is now out of the entire championship due to an injury in April 2022.

Instead, Sara Däbritz and Linda Dallmann are treated as permanent fixtures in the team. With 114 caps, Däbritz is one of the most experienced players in the team. However, she completed an individual program at the last training session because of complaints.

Svenja Huth will take on the role of captain in Friday’s first game against the Danish side. Regular captain is the experienced national player Alexandra Popp, who was unable to take part in the training camp due to illness. There is talk of a trio of captains in the team, and Sara Däbritz has also worn the captain’s armband in recent months.

Mainly because of the low average age, many trust the team to be successful at the 2022 European Championship.

The hope is that the existing squad can continue to exist in this constellation for a long time. The youngest German player is Jule Brandt at just 19 years old.
