At Lufthansa, the likelihood of a pilot strike has increased. The Cockpit union announced in Frankfurt am Main that the company had submitted a modified offer on Thursday, but this had been rated as “insufficient” by the Cockpit tariff committee.

The legal and organizational preparations for strikes are under way. “Nevertheless, it is clear that the Cockpit Association can still be reached,” emphasized union spokesman Matthias Baier.

“We are currently too far apart,” he said at the same time. In addition to compensating for the loss of real wages, a “sustainable solution for the remuneration structure in all professional groups” is needed above all.

According to the union, four-day talks between Cockpit and Lufthansa about the framework conditions for the continuation of collective bargaining ended on Friday last week without an agreement. “No result was achieved about a promising continuation of the negotiations”. At the end of July, the cockpit members voted in favor of a possible labor dispute with a large majority.

At the beginning of August, the Verdi union reached a collective agreement with Lufthansa for ground staff, which provides for significant wage increases. Previously, there had been a more than 26-hour warning strike by workers on the ground. As a result, Lufthansa had to cancel more than 1,000 flights in the middle of the holiday season. (AFP)
