An administrative investigation was triggered by the Minister of Education to understand how a teenager could have been in a “couple” with a special education teacher from her school when it was known. The “management” of the school service center will be evaluated.

The investigation will focus on the “management of events by the Pointe-de-l’Île school service center”, confirms Florence Plourde, press secretary to Minister Bernard Drainville.

This investigation follows the guilty plea entered last week by Véronie Campeau, 41 years old. She was charged with sexual interference with a minor under the age of 16, invitation to sexual touching and sexual exploitation.

For years, she “officially” formed a “couple” with a vulnerable student at a high school in east Montreal. “It was known,” summarized Mr. Gary Martin, the defendant’s lawyer.

In his statement to the police, the student recounted having confided in 2014 to a teacher from the Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry school that she formed a “couple” with Véronie Campeau.

Liberal education critic Marwah Rizqy called for such an inquiry in a letter to Minister Drainville last week.

“Did the teacher report this denunciation to the DPJ? To the school principal? If so, how did this denunciation work, or rather, did it not work? If no report was made to the DYP and/or management, why? “wrote the deputy.

This investigation is in addition to that announced yesterday by the Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse (CDPDJ), which wants to “verify whether the alleged facts are true and whether the rights of the adolescent girl have been respected”.
