Highway 40 and its service roads will be completely closed to traffic next Saturday and Sunday, due to work to dismantle part of the overpass on boulevard des Galeries-d’Anjou.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility (MTMD), which made the announcement in a press release, also foresees “heavy congestion” in connection with this work, and invites the population to avoid the sector.
Last month, the government warned that several obstacles would be expected, the reconstruction of this overpass having resumed since March 20, above Highway 40, after a winter break. This vast project, which began in 2021, should be completed by the end of 2023.
Thus, Highway 40 will be “closed in both directions” on April 22 and 23. “Service roads will also be closed in each direction. These hindrances will lead to heavy congestion. Users are urged to avoid the area,” the ministry said.
Specifically, from April 22 at 10:00 p.m. to April 23 at 11:00 a.m., the freeway axis will be completely closed eastbound between exit 78 and the entrances from Highway 25. Westbound, the entire section between the Exit 80-Nord and the entrance from Langelier Boulevard will also be completely closed.
By default, the ramps from the A25 North to the A40 West, from the A25 South to the A40 West, from the A40 East to the A25 North and from the A40 East to the A25 South will also be closed at the same time.
Highway service lanes will also be closed between 9 p.m. April 22 and 2 p.m. April 23. Eastbound, it will no longer be possible to drive between avenue des Halles and the entrance to the shopping center, while westbound, traffic will be interrupted between rue Jarry Est and avenue de Neuville. The ramp between rue du Champ-d’Eau and the eastbound service road will also be blocked.
On the Boulevard des Galeries-d’Anjou, finally, cars will not be able to circulate between 10 p.m. on April 22 and 11 a.m. the next day. The axis will be completely closed to traffic above Highway 40.
Quebec says detours will be made “on the municipal road network and will be marked with temporary signage.” “Further closures will be required for the continuation of the project. The impediments will be clarified by means of press releases as soon as they are known”, indicates the ministry.
The latter also reminds that the work could be postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions or unforeseen operational constraints. It is advisable to consult the Québec 511 platform to better plan your trips.
