History 21/02/20 Jaroslav Hasek (bottom row, second from left)Jaroslav Hasek: “the father” “Schweik” was the soldier

Jaroslav Hasek is perhaps the most famous in Russia, the Czech writer. It’s harsh, but at the same time subtle and absurd satire in our country is loved as in Soviet times, continue to love today. We describe a trace in the history of Russia left behind by the author of “Adventures of gallant soldier Schweik”, which everything else was red and the Commissioner participated in many events of the Civil war.

From the Bohemian Joker to the right Communist

Jaroslav Hasek was born in Prague in 1883. He was growing restless and often got into an unusual situation. He was a smart and talented boy, but at school he was bored, so he left her. His entire youth he spent in the campaigns with their peers, during which I walked around Moravia and Slovakia. By 1903 behind him was thrown the job at the Bank, participation in the Macedonian and Bulgarian uprising against the Turks and a lot of travel.

About this period he began to write, first poetry, then humoresques and satires. He achieves success in this case is soon at his jokes laughs for the whole Prague. Hasek becomes the main comic writer of the Czech Republic.

And then the First world war. Your way since the war years Hasek quite accurately described in “Schweik”. In 1917 he was taken prisoner by the Russian, recovering from typhus in a hospital in Kiev, and joined the Czechoslovak Legion. In 1918 he leaves the Legion, came to Moscow and enters the RCP (b).

the adventures of the brave Commissar in the Volga region

a Communist Hasek was before the war, but in Moscow he became obsessed with the idea of revolution. Talented Czech (besides the fact that he was a master of the feuilleton, Hasek was fluent in Russian, German, English, French, Hungarian, Serbian and even Bashkir languages) , noticed in the party.

In April 1918 it as a member of the Czech group of the party sent to Samara, which was recently liberated from whites. There he launched a campaign among those who remained in the military the Czechoslovak Legion. The campaign was successful — in Samara was organized by a small band of staunch Hasek, the Czechs and Slovaks.

soon, However, the city was captured by the compounds of the Legion, who fought on the side of the whites, and threatened to hang all red administration, and Hasek “above all”. When the Czechs had already entered the city, Hasek at the last moment escaped from the train and rushed to the hotel where I forgot important documents. Catch up with her he did not have time, but still managed to slip away from the city, dressed in civilian clothes.

a Few months Hasek was hiding from his living near Samara friends, posing as “Turkestan of a German colonist, idiot from birth”.

Bugul’ma, Irkutsk, Lipnice

In October 1918 he finally joined the ranks of the red Army. The climax of his military career was the appointment by voenkomatom Tatar town of Bugulma. Hasek wrote about this period of his life cycle stories. They, like almost all his writings, laced with satire, but at the same time awful. Reading them, we are immersed in the brutal world of the Civil war. Here is an excerpt from the story “the Commandant of Bugulma”

Bugulma anarchy. And the mayor with a delegation waiting for two days with bread and salt, anybody entered the city. I sent forward one of the Chuvash, better than others who spoke in Russian, and in the morning everyone moved on Bugulma. On the edge of town we waited for a huge crowd. The mayor was holding a tray of bread and salt. In his speech he asked us to take pity on the city and its residents. I was like Žižka in front of Prague. I cut a slice of bread and sprinkled with salt. In a long speech, thanked met and stressed that he came here to restore calm, peace and order. In conclusion kissed the mayor, shook hands with the clergy. Then I was shown a room to use.coy commandant.

After that I gave the stick order number 1 to the following:

Citizens!

Thank you all for a very hot meeting and the hospitality with bread and salt. Please do not forget that I am appointed commandant of the city. So I ask you, dear friends, to surrender all weapons to the city office tomorrow until 12 noon. Do not threaten anyone, but please keep in mind that the city is under siege.

I will Add that I have the right to impose on the city a contribution, but declare: no indemnity will not pay.

the next day by 12 noon the square was filled with armed men. It’s more than a thousand people with guns, someone brought even a machine gun. Our little party would disappear in the sea of these armed men. But they were going to surrender their weapons. Long into the evening, passed it to everyone I shook hands and spoke a few friendly words.”

Bugulma Hasek worked prior to 1919. Then the Soviet command had left him to different cities of Siberia. He participated in the battles, several times it was attempted. But all this time he never stopped writing his satires and kommunisticheskii agitation. When the war ended, he settled in Irkutsk, where he bought a house and was elected to the city Council.

But in 1920, he returned to his homeland — in the free Czechoslovakia. With his new wife, Alexandra Lvova, daughter of the first President of the Provisional government, he settled in the village of Lipnice. There he was, surrounded by friends and crowned with glory, suddenly died in 1923, at the age of just 39 years. The cause of death of the famous writer and resourceful red Commissioner was the drinking — Hasek been drinking all his life and drank a lot.
