Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) still does not want to be committed to questions about her political future in the federal government and in Hesse. When asked whether she would still be Federal Minister of Sports in 2024, she said on Monday in Wiesbaden: “I am Interior Minister with full force.” As Federal Minister of the Interior, Faeser is also responsible for sports.

She is currently concentrating very much on, among other things, combating sexualised violence against children, organized crime and hatred and hate speech on the Internet, explained Faeser. “These are not things that you have done the day after tomorrow, you also need the appropriate time for that. Everything else doesn’t matter to me.”

The day before, Faeser had countered the rumors of a change of office. “Would you give up this office of Federal Minister of the Interior? I don’t intend to do that,” she told the “Bild am Sonntag”.

Recently, statements by Federal Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (SPD) had fueled speculation that Faeser, as the SPD’s top candidate for the state elections in autumn 2023, could possibly give up her position as Federal Minister of the Interior prematurely.

In an interview with the “t-online” news portal, the defense minister said: “I’m counting on Nancy Faeser not only becoming the top candidate, but also the first woman prime minister in Hesse.” Lambrecht, like Faeser, is a member of the Hessian state association.
