(Hawkesbury) The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a possible double murder in a border community in Quebec.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirmed Thursday that it had arrested a man in his twenties on Wednesday evening, in the municipality of Les Cèdres, in Montérégie.
The visibly disorganized individual was arrested in connection with an assault on a truck driver on Highway 30 East at kilometer 20. Police had to use a taser to subdue him.
The man may have been involved in an earlier hit-and-run and an “event that occurred in Eastern Ontario,” the SQ said.
The OPP say they were informed of the situation by the SQ, after which they went to a house in the East Hawkesbury community, where two dead people were discovered.
The investigation is in its infancy, but the OPP says the two events appear to be related.
The police did not give the names of the victims.
There is an imposing police presence in the Chute-à-Blondeau sector, in East Hawkesbury, but there is no threat to public safety, according to the OPP.
