In Berlin, too, the authorities continue to warn of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. Concerts and other cultural events have already been cancelled. The fire brigade has declared a state of emergency, but it is still comparatively quiet.

The concert by the band “Die Ärzte” on Tempelhofer Feld was canceled in the afternoon due to the weather. The event was forced to end for safety reasons, the organizer said. “The events on Saturday and Sunday will take place as planned according to the current status”.

The appearance of the musician Materia in Wuhlheide was also canceled due to the weather. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender also canceled their public festival on Friday evening to be on the safe side. The Berlin State Ballet also met the weather conditions: The planned boat tour “From Berlin with love”, which should have taken place as part of the cultural summer festival on the Spree, was postponed, as the State Ballet announced on Facebook on Friday afternoon. The tour is now scheduled to take place on Monday, September 12, and the Staatsballett Berlin’s boat tour on the Spree was canceled due to the weather.

The German Weather Service had temporarily issued an official severe weather warning for Berlin on Friday afternoon before heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain and heavy rain. Heavy gusts of wind were also expected. By 5:00 p.m., this had been lifted.

Despite heavy rain and thunderstorms, the deployment situation for the Berlin fire brigade was clear for the time being late Friday afternoon. “We have around 30 smaller operations, for example because of a flooded basement,” said a fire department spokesman. However, the weather emergency has already been declared in order to be able to mobilize sufficient forces in an emergency. Almost a dozen voluntary fire brigades, especially in the south-east of Berlin, are ready to help out in larger situations.

The fire brigade continued to warn of severe thunderstorms and heavy rain in the capital via Twitter. She called on the population to stay indoors, clear balconies and unplug TVs.

There were also problems at BER Airport in Schönefeld on Friday afternoon due to thunderstorms. As the airport company announced on Twitter, the handling had been temporarily suspended. She has since been reinstated.

For the weekend, the German Weather Service announced further rain in the capital region: Until Saturday evening there will be thunderstorms and local extreme storms due to heavy rain. The maximum temperatures on Saturday are between 24 and 26 degrees, and according to the weather service there are still showers and thunderstorms in some areas on Sunday night.
