A vehicle with a total loss and one fatality: After a serious accident, emergency services were able to salvage a passenger car from the Swiss Vielwaldstättersee on Wednesday morning. This is reported by the official website of the canton of Schwyz.
On July 24, 2022, a vehicle broke through a bridge barrier here and fell 45 meters down into the lake. After the salvage had to be briefly interrupted on July 26, the car was located and salvaged at a depth of 182 meters the following day.
There was one fatality in the wreck itself. The body was taken to the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University of Zurich to clarify the cause of death and to establish its identity.
According to the current state of investigation, the authorities assume that the fatality was alone in the car. A few meters below the surface, divers from the Schwyz cantonal police carried out further security work on the accident vehicle.
