With three goals conceded in the final phase, Borussia Dortmund carelessly gambled away their third win of the season and suffered the first serious setback of the Bundesliga season, which is still young. Despite a 2-0 lead, BVB lost 2-3 (1-0) to newly promoted Werder Bremen on Saturday. This means that champions FC Bayern Munich can already pull away a little with a win on Sunday at VfL Bochum.

The crisis at Champions League participants Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, is taking on greater proportions. The factory club also lost its third league game in a 0:3 (0:2) against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and remains at the bottom. In addition, coach Gerardo Seoane’s team also made a fool of themselves in the DFB Cup at SV Elversberg.

VfL Wolfsburg is also not gaining momentum under former master coach Niko Kovac. In the next home game against a promoted team, there was also no win in the 0-0 draw against FC Schalke 04. SC Freiburg meanwhile won the Baden-Württemberg derby at VfB Stuttgart 1-0 (1-0) and is back in the front field with six points. In addition, FC Augsburg lost 1:2 (1:1) to FSV Mainz 05 in the last minute.

After goals from Julian Brandt (45.2) and Raphael Guerreiro (77.), the third BVB victory seemed to be a sure thing before the Werder madness started in the final phase. Leo Buchanan (89th), Niklas Schmidt (90th 3) and Oliver Burke (90.5) shocked BVB and put an end to Dortmund’s winning streak under coach Edin Terzic. This leaves BVB behind western rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach, who won 1-0 against Hertha BSC on Friday.

The top of the table is very far away for Bayer. Christoph Baumgartner with a spectacular hack goal (9th), Andrej Kramaric (35th) and Georginio Rutter (78th) worsened the Leverkusen crisis. The hosts were lucky that referee Tobias Reichel took back Robert Skov’s Hoffenheim goal after video evidence (39′).

Speaking of video evidence – the Kölner Keller also intervened in the Wolfsburg game after Micky van de Ven had fouled Simon Terodde without prosecution. The Schalke striker didn’t use the chance from the point – and twice. Terodde failed twice with a weak shot by Koen Casteels (45.1 and 45.3). The first penalty was repeated because Casteels left the line too early. So it was enough for VfL, where top scorer Max Kruse was only substituted on, at least one point.
