The Berlin fire brigade and other emergency services moved out to a larger operation at the Friedrichstrasse station on Monday. According to a spokesman for the fire brigade, an S-Bahn was left on the section between Friedrichstrasse station and the main station due to a technical fault. 350 people were freed from this train and two other S-Bahn trains during the evening, the fire department spokesman continued.
Several people had suffered circulatory problems and had to be treated on site. At the time of the incident, it was very hot in Berlin. It was initially unclear how many people were actually injured. The fire brigade spoke of a “mass casualty” – but this applies to five or more people.
