(Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu) A 43-year-old man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the death of a 60-year-old in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Montérégie.

According to the police, Joël Brosseau appeared at the courthouse on Tuesday.

It was around 9:15 a.m. on Sunday that the local police department received a call to go to a residence on Avenue des Pins in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in the Saint-Luc sector.

The police found the body of the 67-year-old woman at the scene. The suspect was arrested at the scene, but court documents say he has no fixed address.

The link between the victim and Brosseau has not been confirmed. The man is not known to police circles.

The accused is due back in court later this week.
