While the focus today has been on Ukrainian attacks in the south of the country (see maps below), the conflict over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant continues despite the approaching visit by IAEA inspectors.

The Russian occupation administration explained that the nuclear power plant came under fire again on Tuesday morning. The occupiers blame Ukraine for the attack and claim they want to disrupt the nuclear experts’ mission, according to a report shared by Telegram. There was also heavy shelling in the town of Enerhodar, where the nuclear power plant is located.

Exactly this accusation also exists in the other direction: Mykhailo Podoljak, adviser to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, had accused the Russian troops via Twitter of launching targeted attacks on the corridor that the IAEA experts want to use to to get to the nuclear power plant. For weeks, Kyiv and Moscow have been blaming each other for the escalation surrounding the nuclear facility.

The information cannot be independently verified. However, Ukraine has little interest in damaging the plant, as it supplies 20 percent of Ukraine’s electricity. The prospects for energy supply in winter are already bleak.

One thing is certain: The 14 inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency have now arrived in Kyiv, as reported by CNN. Reporters from the broadcaster saw her in front of a hotel in the Ukrainian capital. The Ukrainian Interfax-Ukraine news agency also reported this, citing the press service of the Ministry of Energy. For security reasons, no further details about the mission were released. The renewed attacks in the morning suggest that this is not unfounded.
