A man killed a woman with an ax in Lichtenberg. The perpetrator was shot dead by police officers who wanted to stop him. When the police arrived on Löwenberger Strasse, the man hit his wife who was lying on the ground with an axe, police spokesman Martin Dams said on Sunday.
The police then fired shots at the man, fatally injuring him. The woman also succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The police were initially unable to provide any information on the exact identity of the two. The act happened on Sunday morning shortly before 8 a.m., a homicide detective is investigating. (dpa)
