On Tuesday evening, the Berlin police shot and seriously injured a man in the courtyard of the Alexianer St. Hedwig Hospital in Mitte. The “Berliner Zeitung” reported first.

According to Tagesspiegel information, the man entered the courtyard of the clinic on Grosse Hamburger Straße in the evening via the ambulance entrance. There he is said to have behaved conspicuously, so that the police were alerted. The officials summoned are said to have asked him to calm down and leave the yard. Instead, however, he is said to have attacked a police officer with a broken glass bottle. He then fired a warning shot. As the man continued his attack, the officer shot him in the leg.
The man was then given first aid by the rescue service of the fire brigade and by staff from the Hedwig Hospital. He was then transferred to another hospital for inpatient treatment.
When asked, the Berlin police confirmed an operation at the St. Hedwig Hospital, but did not want to comment on further details.
The Berlin fire brigade confirmed that a shot had been fired at the hospital, involving a male person and officers from the Berlin police. A spokesman also confirmed the gunshot wound, first aid and admission to a hospital.
