Hamburger SV, the favorites for promotion, started the new second division season with a flattering away win. With two goals from Robert Glatzel (67th/76th minute), HSV won 2-0 (0-0) against newly promoted Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday.

In front of 21,900 spectators, the Lower Saxony missed a number of great chances, especially in the first half. HSV, on the other hand, disappointed almost all high expectations and for a long time was most noticeable for the repeated firing of flares in the guest fan block. The north derby started late because the players first had to clear the remains of the fireworks from the pitch.

Hamburg began the season with just two newcomers in the starting XI: Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer up front and Laszlo Benes in midfield. The advantage of this occupation: Actually, the team should be more coordinated than all other teams in the league. The downside: Everyone there has slowly adapted to the HSV style.

And so, in the first half alone, Braunschweig missed six big chances according to almost the same pattern: winning the ball in their own half, through the ball forward, good final position in front of goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes. Fabio Kaufmann (3rd/32nd), Jan Hendrik Marx (11th), Lion Lauberbach (14th/20th) and Philipp Strompf (45th) each had an overdue Eintracht lead on their heads and on their feet.
