As the 2020 NFL season continues to chug along, thoughts are turning toward the Super Bowl on February 7th. Excitement is already building for the 55th edition of the showpiece NFL game, and with The Weekend confirmed as the performer for the famous halftime show, fans of American football are licking their lips as they ponder who might make it to Super Bowl LV.

The Philadelphia Eagles were the last team to win the Super Bowl for the first time, when they annihilated the New England Patriots in 2018, leaving 12 NFL franchises who have never won the showpiece event. Could it be that the current season offers forth another first time winner of the Super Bowl? Read on, as we analyze two possible contenders hoping to break their Super Bowl duck this season – the Tennessee Titans and the Buffalo Bills.

Tennessee Titans

According to the betting exchange sites, the Tennessee Titans are one of the teams that could have a say in this season’s NFL, despite never having won a Super Bowl in the franchise’s history. The Titans enjoyed a fine time of it last season, reaching the play-offs and sensationally defeating the New England Patriots in the Wildcard round. They continued that good form to beat the Baltimore Ravens and reach the AFC Championship Game, but just lost out to eventual Super Bowl champs Kansas City Chiefs.

With that experience in their locker, the Titans could be a potent force again come to the business end of the current NFL season. They’re facing a battle with the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South to try and advance directly to the divisional playoff round, but a recent home victory over the Colts has given the Titans the edge. Their fans would love to see the Vince Lombardi Trophy brought back for the first time, and with a good record of eight wins and 3 losses this season, there could yet be glory in February for the Titans.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills have a tag as one of the unluckiest teams in NFL history, after losing four consecutive Super Bowls between 1990 and 1993. The first of these was an agonizing 20-19 defeat to the New York Giants, after which more convincing losses against Washington, and twice against the Dallas Cowboys meant they never got their hands on the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. It’s an unfortunate record, and since then, no Bills team has reached the deciding game, as the ghosts of the past continue to haunt Bills Stadium.

Like the Titans, the Bills made the playoffs last season, but crushingly lost in overtime to the Houston Texans in the wildcard round. But the gradual improvement of the Bills over the last few years suggests that this is a team on the up. This season, the Bills are battling it out with the Miami Dolphins for the AFC East, and are currently leading the division. With a record of eight wins and three losses so far, perhaps there is a chance that the current players could exorcise those demons of the past in 2021.
