And it wasn’t just a physical similarity the then captain of the 2nd rank with the legendary division commander.

a Childhood without the sea

Ivan G. Svyatov was born in 1903 in the village of Pecheneg Petrovsky district. However, childhood and youth he spent in the village Bessonovka, Penza district. The fact that the mother of the future rear Admiral, Anna tracina, having an already large family, willingly gave his son to casual acquaintances, who could not have children. So tracin Ivan became Ivan by Swiatowym. About it in his autobiographical book, “Ships and men” he wrote “sea Chapaev”. However, adoptive parents, spouses Swiatowy, turned out to be quite respectable people. Therefore, to call the childhood of Ivan Georgievich unhappy would be wrong.

Parents were punished Ivan only for mischief. However, the boy liked to roughhouse, and to fish. Bessonovskiy teenagers ran to fish on the river Sura. To become a sailor Svyatov then not going: him, still a schoolboy, was more fascinated by revolutionary ideas. In 1920 in Bessonovka arrived agitators, and Ivan was one of the first entered the ranks of the Communist youth Union. A few months brisk the boy was sent to serve in the reversed while the Baltic fleet.

Svatovo had the opportunity to serve on the border courts, but during the war with Finland he already commanded a detachment of naval support for the landing on the island. As he writes in his book “Heroes of the battle of Leningrad” G. M. Getmanets, the Great Patriotic war Ivan the saints met in the rank of captain of the 2nd rank, and the chief of staff of the Detachment of light forces of the Baltic fleet. However, in the night from 21 to 22 Jun 1941, he was appointed commander of the cruiser “Maxim Gorky”.

As argued by the author of the story “Vasily Chapaev”, Zinaida Likhacheva and Yevgeny Matveyev, Vasily Ivanovich, too, had his words did not climb. In addition, the saints in the same way as Chapaev has not reached the highest positions in the leadership and high-profile titles.

July 21, 1944, he was promoted to rear Admiral and since then did not rise above. However, Ivan G. anything not complained.
