A federal government task force will deal with the future of the PCK refinery in Schwedt, Brandenburg. As the Ministry of Economics announced on Friday on request, an interministerial working group is to be set up at the beginning of the coming week.

In addition to the Federal Ministry of Economics, the Chancellery and the Ministries for Finance, Transport, Labor and the Environment are also involved, as well as the federal states of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The “Märkische Oderzeitung” reported about it first.

The PCK refinery would be particularly affected by an oil embargo against Russia because it is majority-owned by the German subsidiary of the Russian state-owned company Rosneft and primarily Russian oil from the Druzhba pipeline is processed there. Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) had promised support for the preservation of the refinery during a visit to Schwedt.
