The Berlin fire brigade museum next to the Tegel fire station cannot be overlooked thanks to the helicopter permanently “hovering” in the air on site, the emergency vehicle whizzing straight out of the building and the old advertising column.

But you couldn’t enter it for almost four years. The reason: a complex conversion and expansion as well as the corona pandemic. The Reinickendorf newsletter from the Tagesspiegel has now reported on this. It is available in full at leute.tagesspiegel.de.

As of this week, the museum is open again to visitors who are interested in the history of the Berlin fire brigade. The official reopening took place – e.g. in the presence of state fire director Karsten Homrighausen and museum director Gordian Scholz – last Saturday, the 171st birthday of the Berlin fire department. Here some photos.

One of the new features of the fire brigade museum is that it is now barrier-free. An elevator was also installed so that people in wheelchairs, senior citizens, families with prams or people with other mobility restrictions can get into the museum and move around in it.

In the exhibition, visitors can then learn interesting facts from over 170 years of fire service history, e.g. B. that the fire pump used to be operated with pure muscle power. The historic vehicles are also exciting. Guided tours will be offered again soon.

Here is the service: Veitstraße 5, opening hours: Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission: adults 5 euros, reduced from three years 2.50 euros; there are also family tickets.
