The New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx are totally killing it so far in the 2025 WNBA season. Like, seriously, they’re off to a flying start, and it’s pretty epic. The Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream have had some super close games, going right down to the wire. And hey, let’s not forget about the Golden State Valkyries snagging their first-ever win in franchise history. On the flip side, it seems like the Chicago Sky, Connecticut Sun, and Dallas Wings are having a bit of a rough time, with a combined record of 0-7 to kick things off. Ouch.
So, after 16 games, it looks like some of the offseason moves are already paying off big time. Take the Phoenix Mercury, for example. They scored forwards Satou Sabally and Alyssa Thomas, who are straight-up balling with a combined average of 45.5 points in two games. And how about the Los Angeles Sparks? They might be 1-2, but Kelsey Plum is putting up some serious numbers, averaging 26.7 points in her first season with the team after being traded from the Las Vegas Aces.
The Liberty and Lynx are totally leading the pack, and they didn’t even need to make major moves in the offseason because they were already so solid. Natasha Cloud is crushing it for the Liberty, dropping 20 points and dishing out 8.5 assists per game. And can we talk about Jessica Shepard and Karlie Samuelson stepping up for the Lynx? Shepard’s killing it on the inside, while Samuelson is holding it down on the perimeter. It’s like these teams are just in sync, you know?
Then there’s the Fever, who are keeping things interesting with a 2-1 record. Caitlin Clark is a total force to be reckoned with, and she’s making sure everyone’s eyes are on the Fever every time she hits the court. They’re showing they can hang with the big dogs in the WNBA, and it’s going to be a blast watching them this season as they strive to level up from last year.
The Phoenix Mercury are proving that depth is key, even with some key players sidelined. Kitija Laksa and Murjanatu Musa made their WNBA debuts, and they’re already making an impact. Laksa, in particular, has been a standout shooter, and it looks like she’s finally found her groove in the league. Plus, with Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen making waves for the Mystics, the rookie of the year race is heating up. Paige Bueckers might have been the frontrunner, but these newbies are giving her a run for her money.
On the flip side, there are some teams that are struggling out of the gate. The Sky are having a tough time finding their rhythm, shooting poorly and struggling to find their groove as a team. The Valkyries, despite getting their first win, are having major shooting woes, especially from beyond the arc. And the Storm, despite a solid offseason, are off to a lackluster start, leaving much to be desired. It’s early days, but these teams definitely have some work to do to turn things around.
So, yeah, the 2025 WNBA season is off to a wild start, with surprises, upsets, and standout performances galore. It’s going to be a rollercoaster of a season, and we can’t wait to see how it all plays out. Let the games continue!
