(Kyiv) The Ukrainian authorities reported Russian strikes on several Ukrainian cities overnight from Thursday to Friday, killing at least two people in Dnipro (center-east) and causing the activation of anti-aircraft defenses in Kyiv.

Missiles “again killed civilians in Dnipro. A young woman and a three-year-old child died,” the mayor of this city, Borys Filatov, said on Telegram.

The capital’s municipality reported on Telegram the activation of air defense systems in Kyiv, calling on residents to stay safe.

In Uman, a city of some 80,000 inhabitants in the center of the country, a video broadcast by the Ukrainian media shows a gutted apartment building with many rubble on the ground.

“An enemy missile hit a residential building. Information about the victims is being clarified,” Zoya Vovk, spokesperson for the regional police, said on Telegram.

While Russia regularly bombed Ukrainian cities and infrastructure last winter, massive strikes had become rarer in recent months.

Most of the fighting is taking place today in the East for control of the industrial region of Donbass, and in particular in the city of Bakhmout, almost completely destroyed.

Eleven Russian cruise missiles were shot down in the sky of Kyiv by Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense overnight from Thursday to Friday, the municipality announced, adding that the attack did not cause any casualties or serious damage.

“According to preliminary data, 11 cruise missiles were destroyed in Kyiv airspace. In addition to the missiles, two drones were shot down,” the municipality said on Telegram.
