On the first weekend with summer holidays in all federal states, a mix of weather conditions is forecast in Germany.

While it should remain quite friendly and largely dry in the western half and near the coast on Saturday, there are showers and occasional strong thunderstorms in an area from the Alps in the south to the Aller in Saxony-Anhalt and Lower Saxony in the northwest and the Neisse to the east Expect heavy rain.

In the afternoon, the showers will move as far as Schleswig-Holstein, the German weather service (DWD) in Offenbach said on Friday.

The DWD explained that the precipitation would ease the situation in the forest fire areas in Saxony and southern Brandenburg in particular from the early hours of Saturday. In Saxony, more than ten liters of rain per square meter could fall within twelve hours, which, according to the meteorologists, should “significantly” defuse the situation there.

In turn, possible heavy rain could lead to a risk for emergency services on slopes such as in Saxon Switzerland. The expected amounts of precipitation for southern Brandenburg are even more uncertain so far, north of Berlin and Magdeburg there was no precipitation for the time being.
