The public prosecutor’s office in Düsseldorf is investigating a possible fraud involving millions of euros on the European gas market.
Four people are suspected of having sold wholesale gas in 2018 that they did not have, a spokesman for the authority said on Monday. This could have caused damage of up to 40 million euros in Germany alone.
Further damage in the millions may have occurred in other European countries. The “Wirtschaftswoche” had previously reported on it.
