An investigation has been launched against a 26-year-old woman who took a baby from Leipzig to Brandenburg last week. The criminal police are investigating the woman on suspicion of kidnapping minors, said a police spokeswoman on Monday on request.

The suspect had taken the baby of an acquaintance from a Leipzig shopping center on Thursday. After a night of searching, it was found in Brandenburg. According to police, the baby was returned to the mother unharmed. The motive of the 26-year-old initially remained open.

According to the police, the pram with the baby was “briefly” given to the woman, who then disappeared with the baby. She is “no stranger” to the child’s family. The police initially did not speak of a kidnapping. “The child was not taken by force, and there are no demands either.”
