The long wait has a happy ending: on the second attempt – twenty years after her first engagement – Latina star Jennifer Lopez (52) and Hollywood actor Ben Affleck (49) got married. “We Did It,” Lopez announced in a circular on Sunday afternoon (local time). In the casino city of Las Vegas in the US state of Nevada, they said yes at night.

They just made it to the Little White Wedding Chapel at midnight. The wedding chapel was kind enough to stay a little longer especially for her. Lopez posted a link to her On the JLo newsletter on her social media with photos, video and a full description of her “best wedding ever” – signed with the name Jennifer Lynn Affleck.

In photos, the bride shines in two different white dresses, one high-necked, the other strapless with a veil. Affleck, wearing a white tuxedo jacket and black bow tie, jokes in a restroom that he changed here for the ceremony. A pink Cadillac convertible was also the backdrop for snapshots.

With this lightning wedding, her long-cherished wish finally came true, writes Lopez. They are both so grateful for their love and for the “wonderful family with five great children”. This required “20 years of patience”.

They were Hollywood’s dream couple more than 20 years ago, but that didn’t last long. The “Bennifer” romance lasted only 18 months until the end of their first engagement in January 2004.

The previous fall, they had canceled their wedding celebration in Montecito, California, at short notice. At the time, they justified the postponement with their fear of the media hype that could disrupt their “happiest day”. Together they made two films – “Love with Risk – Gigli” and “Jersey Girl” – but both of them flopped at the box office.

Lopez was married twice before her first relationship with Affleck – to waiter Ojani Noa between 1997 and 1998 and to dancer Cris Judd between 2001 and 2003. Shortly after “Bennifer” ended, she married singer Marc Anthony in 2004, which went well for ten years. Together they have 14-year-old twins Emme and Max.

Lopez got engaged to former baseball star Alex Rodríguez in 2019, but the love ended last year. A little later, photos appeared in gossip magazines that showed Affleck in front of Lopez’s house in Los Angeles or on trips together. At this point, the actor had been separated from his ex-wife Jennifer Garner for some time. From their marriage (from 2005 to 2018) come three children aged ten to 16 years.

Affleck’s second marriage proposal to Lopez came in April. “Saturday night while I was in my favorite place on earth (in the bubble bath), my lover knelt down and proposed to me. I was stunned, looking into his eyes, smiling and crying at the same time, trying to grasp the fact that this was happening again 20 years later,” Lopez wrote in her newsletter On the JLo. “We got a second chance for true love.”

The Las Vegas wedding now came without warning to “Bennifer” fans. Last night they flew to Las Vegas and there, along with other couples, queued up at the marriage license office to pick up a marriage license, Lopez wrote in her newsletter.
