As the Berlin police announced on Friday afternoon, a security officer noticed two mirror-inverted swastikas carved into a block of stone in the morning. The swastikas were ten by ten centimeters.
In addition, an anti-constitutional slogan was smeared, the wording of which the police initially did not explain further. As the Tagesspiegel learned from the police, it was the slogan “Heil Hitler”, which was also forbidden.
Public witnessing of the swastika and the dissemination of various Nazi slogans is prohibited and punishable in Germany. It is the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations.
The police state security at the State Criminal Police Office, which is responsible for politically motivated crimes, took over the further investigations. As early as February, unknown persons had carved a swastika into a stele at the monument.
The Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe near the Brandenburg Gate is Germany’s central Holocaust memorial. This was inaugurated in 2005.
