On the Spanish holiday island of Mallorca, the police arrested a German on suspicion of arson. The man is accused of having set fire to a total of seven places on Saturday and Sunday, including near forests near Calvià, about 20 kilometers west of Palma, the police said on Monday. A spokesman added that this was even more dangerous than usual because of the current extreme risk of forest fires as a result of drought.

Luckily all the fires could have been extinguished quickly. Details of the identity of the German were not initially communicated.

Several fires were initially registered in Mallorca on Saturday, in which, according to the police, bushland was destroyed. More fires followed in the same area on Sunday morning, which were also quickly extinguished.
