(Cookshire-Eaton) A young man lost his life and four other people were injured in the swerve of a car that occurred late Thursday evening in Cookshire-Eaton, in the Eastern Townships.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which is investigating this case, added Friday morning that the medical authorities feared for the life of one of the injured.

The accident happened around 11:45 p.m. on Bartlett Road.

The five men, all in their twenties, were in the same vehicle whose driver lost control before leaving the road, for a reason that remained unknown on Friday. The one who perished was a passenger in the car.

A closure has been ordered by the police on Bartlett Road so that SQ accident investigators and reconstructionists can find the cause of the tragedy.

On Friday, it was unclear whether alcohol or drug abuse may have contributed to the loss of control of the vehicle.
