The Carnival of Cultures has announced performances for this year despite the canceled street parade in Berlin. Various groups are scheduled to perform in the Kulturbrauerei on Pentecost Sunday. Actions at the Fête de la Musique on June 21 and performances in late summer are also planned.

As the organizers announced on Tuesday, a concept dialogue is to take place in various formats from June to September, to which stakeholders, partners, residents, visitors and the wider Berlin public are to be invited.

“The vision is to rethink the impulse of carnival as a creative anti-racist intervention for a culturally diverse Berlin” and to be able to return to public space in 2023, the organizers said in a statement. It should also deal with safety aspects, sustainability and pandemic-related adjustments. An upstream concept phase has already taken place to prepare the dialogue process. The results are due to be announced in October.

At the beginning of January it was announced that the Carnival of Cultures would be canceled for the third time this year due to the corona virus and that the year should be used to reconsider the concept into a participatory process.
