A pug in honor of Loriot has disappeared in Brandenburg an der Havel – the humorist’s birthplace. The bronze figure was apparently forcibly dismantled, the police report said on Thursday. In the city there is a whole series of sculptures of so-called forest pugs – a character invented by Loriot.

The pug was the favorite animal of Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot (1923 – 2011), who is also known for the quote: “Life without a pug is possible, but pointless.” In a sketch he once spoke about the “wild forest pug”. .

The sculpture on Katharinenplatz has been missing since Saturday (July 16), the police said. “As a result, there was not only great property damage, but also great cultural and historical damage.”

The police are looking for witnesses. The city of Brandenburg an der Havel has offered a reward of 250 euros for information leading to the location of the stolen bronze figure.

The police said that there was always vandalism on the figures in Havelstadt. The theft of a forest pug is not new either. A copy had already been stolen in April 2021.
