The British musician David Young is dead. As the Berlin band Element of Crime announced on Facebook, he died last week. The statement reads: “Although he had been ill for a long time, his death was completely unexpected. He was a comrade-in-arms, colleague, teacher, friend and brother to us. We will miss him very much!”
David Young joined Element of Crime in 1987 where he has served in a variety of roles. Among other things, he acted as producer and sound engineer for the recordings. Young joined the line-up in 1993 as a live guitarist, from 2002 to 2022 he was the bass player in the group around Sven Regener. His successor is Markus Runzheimer.
Born in London in 1949, Young initially worked as a live mixer at concerts. In the mid 80’s he joined John Cale’s band and also worked as a co-producer for him. When Cale was producing the first Element of Crime album “Try To Be Mensch” in London, the band also met David Young in his studio.
