As is the case in our sports shop, the next major event is always just around the corner. The preparations are underway, the first interviews are already in our roster at the sports department. Marked as – “Date Women’s European Championship”.

What the heck is a “Women’s Championship”? A European championship in women? Okay, it must be a different sport, most likely football, since we are in the German-speaking area. Of course, we mean the women’s European Football Championship, just as we mean the men’s European Football Championship when we talk about the men’s European Championship.

Many associations, starting with the DFB, who talk and write about football and mean men – and women’s football. Although no woman would say she plays women’s soccer. The DFB has an official Twitter account for “the team” and one for the “DFB women”, i.e. the women of the German Football Association. Sure, some are already further and separate in the women’s national football team and the men’s national team.

We’ll take care of the “man” with “shank” later, not all at once. In day-to-day business, the boss at our company already said “Women’s European Championship” and he hereby promises that he will never do it again. Incidentally, our duty roster now includes an “European Football Championship appointment” for the coming week. No confusion, the EM in men is only in two years.
