Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock continues to reject a longer service life for the three remaining German nuclear power plants beyond the end of the year.

“I’m not convinced that nuclear power plants will solve our gas problem,” said the Green politician to “Bild am Sonntag”. “Whether we could still have an electricity problem in Bavaria because the grid expansion there was delayed is currently being examined in the stress test.” Baerbock said that those who were just talking about nuclear power were not about the stretching operation. “They want a roll back to nuclear power.

Coal phase-out, climate change, sector coupling: The briefing for the energy and climate sector. For decision makers

We have paid many billions for the back and forth in the nuclear phase-out over the past decade. Upsetting that now would be madness and would cost us even more.”

Because of the energy crisis, which has worsened due to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, there has been a debate for months as to whether the three remaining nuclear power plants should run longer. The authorization to operate the Isar 2 reactor in Bavaria actually expires at the end of the year, as does that of the Emsland reactors in Lower Saxony and Neckarwestheim 2 in Baden-Württemberg.
