Biology PhD student Marie-Luise Vollbrecht is making up for her lecture that was canceled at the Long Night of Science this Thursday separately at Berlin’s Humboldt University – two hours before a panel discussion on academic freedom. The HU reports this.
Vollbrecht will give her lecture entitled “Sex is not (gen)sex: sex, gender and why there are two sexes in biology” at 5 p.m. in the University’s Biological Institute (Dorotheenstraße 24). Admission is free, but those interested must register in advance on the HU website.
A panel discussion on how to deal with social controversies at universities will follow at 7 p.m.
Federal Research Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) will be connected, with HU President Peter Frensch, Vollbrechts doctoral supervisor Rüdiger Krahe, HU lawyer Martin Heger, Kerstin Palm, Professor of Gender and Science and representatives of queer institutions taking part on site .
