More and more migrants are trying to cross the English Channel from France to Great Britain. From the beginning of the year to June 13, 777 attempts to cross the straits in small boats were registered, the Interior Ministry said, according to the AFP news agency in Paris.

A total of 20,132 refugees were involved, an increase of 68 percent compared to the same period last year. Record figures had already been mentioned for 2021. According to the French ministry, 52,000 migrants tried to cross the English Channel, and 28,000 succeeded.

For years, migrants have wanted to cross the English Channel to Great Britain from the northern French port cities. Great Britain wants to prevent this and even pays France money for more intensive border protection. France, on the other hand, accuses the British of having to create more opportunities for legal entry.
