Anyone understand that. In view of the war in Ukraine, Olaf Scholz, the Federal Chancellor, puts the citizens in the mood for persistently high prices. And that “the current crisis will not be over in a few months”. Overall, he speaks of a “historic challenge”.

But that’s not all: Christian Lindner, Vice-Chancellor and Finance Minister, warns of a “serious economic crisis” and “three to four, maybe five years of shortages”. There is now a lot of talk about renunciation.

According to the “Spiegel”, however, this could particularly affect the long-term unemployed. The lord of the coffers apparently wants to drastically reduce their aid funds in the coming years.

Fact: the money has to come from somewhere, right, with all the new debt. And in the medium term – on the next election day – they are most likely to fall back on Lindner, the upper liberal, who came into office for something completely different. For keeping measure, among other things.

With the planned cuts, however, it will no longer be possible to finance the “Social Labor Market” measure. Even the CDU warns that integration into the labor market and social participation will become more difficult. Oh yes: cuts, possibly massive, from massive excess profits of the corporations are not planned in return. Lindner’s measure is different.

But okay, understood: the times are full of deprivation. All in all. Just not for everyone. At least not for Lindner. And if they all come, not for Chancellor Scholz, Justice Minister Buschmann, FDP Vice President Wolfgang Kubicki, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Economics and Climate Minister Robert Habeck, Messrs. Laschet and Friedrich Merz.

After all, they are among the 140 hand-picked invitees with whom the finance minister wants to celebrate a three-day wedding on Sylt. And what a. This won’t be a small number. In the midst of inflation.

Don’t be jealous now, right. Anyone who has, has, who can, can – can afford it. The “Sansibar” on the beach, the “Vogelkoje” in Kampen, the wedding in the church in Keitum (although both are no longer in the church): marriage in a dream setting, picturesque and sophisticated. private matter? Yes, yes – but just one with public effect.

Actually, according to several reports, Lindner probably wanted to celebrate in Tuscany, Italy. According to “Bild”, the festivities were postponed for security reasons and out of consideration for the taxpayer: a number of guests are entitled to personal protection from the Federal Criminal Police Office.

It is paid for with tax money. Precautions include wide-area closures, snipers, armored limousines. The cost of this effort? Are not further numbered. Or more precisely: not yet known.

Sometimes, isn’t it, the private becomes political. In these times, times of crisis, times of historical challenge, as the entire government says, not a few in the country will see this as a provocation: champagne bash, prices from 390 to 3500 euros per night in the spa resort (even if the wedding guests pay for it themselves) , Arriving by plane (attention, ecological footprint!) – that’s something.

In any case, what it lacks is tact. A few punks have already announced their intention to congratulate “the Christian” appropriately.

Christian Linder is federal minister, not just minister for those who can continue to afford five-star stays on Sylt. Economic liberality would be misunderstood. How that works: insensitive and politically unwise. It’s incomprehensible that Lindner of all people does something like this, maybe it just happens to him, since he is otherwise so concerned about his public image.
