The fire brigade brought the forest fire in Gohrischeide and Mühlberg (Elbe-Elster district) under their control. However, it could not be completely deleted. Also on Tuesday she is in action with a large contingent.

In the early morning, the firefighters moved out with 60 emergency services and 16 vehicles, as a spokesman for the Lausitz fire department announced on Tuesday. Embers, in particular, would continue to be observed. To what extent the nightly rain affected the forest fire was still unclear early in the morning.

The major fire broke out on Thursday at a former military training area in Gohrischheide in Saxony and spread towards Mühlberg on Friday.

Another forest fire on a former military training area near Jüterbog (Teltow-Fläming district), on the other hand, has already been completely extinguished. The situation on the affected 20 hectares eased due to the onset of rain during the night, the Brandenburg regional control center announced early Tuesday morning.

The fire brigade had left the place around half past two in the morning after no more fire spots had been noticed, it was said. In the course of the day, the area will be checked again.

Only about a week ago, nearby forest fires in Treuenbrietzen and Beelitz caused great danger. About 200 hectares were in flames there.

Then came the major fire in the south of the country: it broke out on Thursday at a former military training area in Gohrischheide in Saxony and on Friday spread in the direction of Mühlberg (Elbe-Elster) over an area of up to 800 hectares.

Finally, on Monday another fire broke out around 60 kilometers south of Berlin on the former military training area near Jüterbog. Because of the ammunition in the ground, the fire brigade was initially only able to patrol certain areas.

The Federal Police supported the extinguishing work on the former military site, the Twitter account “Federal Police Special Forces” announced: “On Monday, the

Strong gusts of wind and the ongoing drought made it even more difficult for the emergency services to get the flames under control. However, localities were not in danger because the fire broke out in the center of the former military compound.

A forecast of how to proceed in Gohrischheide is difficult because of the weather and the ammunition-contaminated ground. The forces involved in the extinguishing work are now waiting for a forestry machine from Hesse. It is armored and can cut aisles in the area.

“The firefighters can’t go in there at the moment, they stand five meters away on the sidewalk and wait for the fire to start,” said a fire department spokeswoman on Monday.

The announced Bundeswehr tanks should also be there soon. There are pioneers in the area on site to plan the route for the tanks, said the Saxon state fire director Dirk Schneider. The tanks are supposed to cut aisles in the forest to prevent the flames from spreading.

According to Schneider, the temperature on the ground is up to 400 degrees Celsius. If oxygen is supplied with wind, the flames could flare up again and again. “That’s the big challenge.”

That’s why the fire brigade is preparing for a longer deployment. The wind could cause embers to flare up again. A fire station has been set up on site in case a fire hazard should develop again.

According to the police, there had also been three forest fires and other fires in the Ostprignitz Ruppin district in the past few days.

First of all, a fire broke out on Friday in a forest area near the clinic in Lindow (Mark), which spread over an area of three hectares.

The surrounding fire brigades could have extinguished the fire quickly with 120 emergency services. There was also a fire in a small area on Friday in a forest on the local road between Wusterhausen/Dosse and Bantikow. The fire brigade was able to quickly extinguish the flames with 45 emergency services.

Also on Friday afternoon, a one-hectare wasteland between the Neuruppin districts of Nietwerder and Radensleben caught fire. According to current knowledge, the cause was flying sparks through a stone in the mower of a working machine, the police reported.

The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire with a good 30 forces. At the same time, a small part of a meadow caught fire in Kyritz, probably caused by a discarded cigarette butt, according to the police. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the flames quickly and prevent a large fire.

According to the information, on Saturday evening there was a fire in a piece of forest on the road between Gühlen-Glienicke and Pfalzheim over an area of around a thousand square meters. The fire was quickly extinguished.
