(Quebec) Premier François Legault questions the process of evaluating the dilapidation of schools.

The 2023-2024 budget tabled on Tuesday indicates that the proportion of schools in poor condition has gone from 59% to 61% in one year, despite the record sums invested.

In an impromptu press at the National Assembly on Wednesday, Mr. Legault expressed “doubts” about the real proportion of dilapidated schools.

He said he had instructed his Minister responsible for Infrastructure, Jonatan Julien, to review the process for evaluating the dilapidation of schools.

“Is it one class that’s run down or is it the whole school?” asked Mr. Legault.

“Currently the way it works is each service center evaluates their schools. Of course, there’s an incentive to say, “I need money for my schools.” »

The prime minister said he had “doubts” about the process.
