(Rimouski) Two men in their sixties died on the ground of a maple grove in La Trinité-des-Monts, in the MRC of Rimouski-Neigette, in Bas-Saint-Laurent, on Saturday.

They were found lifeless inside a cistern. The emergency services, called to the scene located on chemin de la Rivière-Verte Ouest around 5:30 p.m., attempted resuscitation maneuvers.

The two men were transported to a hospital, where they were declared dead, said Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Stéphane Tremblay.

The victims were doing work in a milk tanker, which was used to collect maple sap.

“According to the first observations, it could be carbon monoxide poisoning,” said Sergeant Tremblay.

An investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is underway, in collaboration with the coroner’s office. The CNESST has also been notified.
