According to a media report, Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) supports Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’s (SPD) call for an increase in aid to Ukraine by 3.8 billion euros this year.

“I completely agree with the Defense Minister on this. And not only with him, but also with the Interior Minister,” Baerbock told the “Bild” newspaper and other Axel Springer media in Kyiv on Tuesday evening. Baerbock traveled to Ukraine on Tuesday for a visit.

“We need a security budget,” she continued, justifying her demand with the fact that “we have never experienced in our lives that our European peace order, our European continent, is so challenged right on our doorstep.” In such an “exceptional situation,” in my opinion, the “exception must also be reflected accordingly in a budget,” said Baerbock. “And that means we have to provide the resources for Ukraine, which support our own security.” This requires “a lot of money.”

According to a report in “Bild am Sonntag”, Defense Minister Pistorius has demanded an additional 3.8 billion euros for aid to Ukraine. So far this year, the government has provided 7.1 billion euros for military aid to Ukraine. However, the sum is almost completely planned, only 300 million euros are still open for new ammunition and weapons purchases, the “BamS” quoted government circles as saying.
