(Shawinigan) Two people suffered minor injuries in a fire in Shawinigan, Mauricie, on Saturday afternoon.

The two injured were transported to a hospital after inhaling smoke as well as to treat burns, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The police were called around 4 p.m. to assist firefighters for the fire in this six-unit building located on Saint-Marc Avenue, near Notre-Dame Street, said SQ spokesperson Hélène St. -Rock.

A resident was initially missing, but was eventually located. He was not at his home when the accident happened.

At the end of the evening, the fire was still raging, says Sergeant St-Pierre. Nearby residences were evacuated as a precaution.
