British MP Craig Mackinlay suffered from septic shock last year. His hands and feet had to be removed. Now he appeared in parliament again.

Craig Mackinlay had to have both his hands and feet removed due to sepsis. After a month-long break, the British MP appeared again in Parliament in London on Wednesday to thunderous applause. 

Speaker of Parliament Lindsay Hoyle personally met the conservative politician at the entrance and escorted him up the steps. 

In the meeting room, the 57-year-old, visibly moved, waved his silver prostheses to his colleagues, who received him with a standing ovation. Opposition leader Keir Starmer, leader of the social democratic Labor Party, also praised Mackinlay’s fighting spirit and duty to serve.

The MP suffered septic shock on September 27, 2023. In the hospital he was placed in an induced coma for 16 days and underwent surgery on December 1st. Mackinlay wants to stand again in his constituency in southeast England in the upcoming general election, which is scheduled to take place later this year.
