(Quebec) A motion was unanimously adopted Thursday in the National Assembly to recognize that women… are women.

The CAQ government thus tried to force the Liberal opposition to position itself.

Indeed, earlier this week, when considering the family law reform bill, Liberal MP André Albert Morin had tried to have the term “carrier” replaced by “carrier”, in order to be more inclusive, based on new gender realities.

Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette refused the amendment and was later accused by Westmount–Saint-Louis MP Jennifer Maccarone of lacking understanding and inclusion.

Mr. Jolin-Barrette returned to the charge Thursday morning with a motion in the Blue Room.

The wording recalls that women give birth through childbirth and asks the Assembly to reiterate the importance of keeping the word woman in Quebec laws.

Even MPs André Albert Morin and Jennifer Maccarone voted in favor of the motion, to applause.

The motion was carried unanimously, with no abstentions.
