A major police operation is underway at the Jean-de-Brébeuf private college in Montreal to determine the cause of a loud noise that would have led to several calls to 911 on Wednesday evening.

At the time of publishing these lines, information from the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) is still fragmentary.

Several calls were made to 911 around 8:40 p.m., said Jeanne Drouin, media relations officer for the SPVM. People told emergency services they heard loud noises, the source of which has yet to be located.

A major police deployment has been initiated to assess the situation, confirmed Agent Drouin. The College has not yet been evacuated, there have been no injuries or arrests, she adds.

According to our information, students and other members of the College staff are barricaded inside the establishment pending further action.

More details to come.
